The Scarlet & Violet era has given us some incredible Pokemon TCG sets. But which ones are actually worth your hard-earned AUD? We've ranked every SV-era set based on four key criteria: card design quality, chase card desirability, pull rates, and long-term investment potential.
Our Ranking Criteria
- Card Design (25%): Art quality, illustration range (illustration rare, special art rare, etc.)
- Chase Cards (25%): How desirable are the top hits? Do they feature popular Pokemon?
- Pull Rates (25%): What are your chances of pulling something great from a booster box?
- Investment Potential (25%): How well will sealed product hold or increase in value?
The Rankings
S Tier - Must Buy
Prismatic Evolutions – The crown jewel of the SV era. Eevee evolutions across stunning art styles, incredible special art rares, and massive demand. Already commanding premiums in the Australian market. If you can find sealed product at or near RRP, grab it.
Pokemon 151 – Pure nostalgia in card form. The original 151 Pokemon with modern art treatments. The illustration rares of Gen 1 starters are among the most beautiful cards ever printed. Sealed product has already appreciated significantly.
A Tier - Highly Recommended
Surging Sparks – Excellent card design with powerful competitive cards. Strong illustration rares featuring fan favourites. Great all-rounder for both collectors and players.
Obsidian Flames – Features a stunning Charizard ex special art rare that alone drives significant value. The dark, fiery aesthetic sets it apart visually from other SV sets.
B Tier - Solid Sets
Paldea Evolved – A strong middle-of-the-road set with good pull rates and solid card design. Great value at current Australian market prices, making it an accessible entry point.
Paradox Rift – Unique mechanic-focused set with ancient and future Pokemon. Distinctive card design that collectors either love or skip. Good investment at current prices due to lower demand creating a value opportunity.
C Tier - Average
Temporal Forces – Decent set but lacks the standout chase cards of higher-ranked sets. Competitive players value it more than collectors.
Twilight Masquerade – Beautiful card art but a smaller set that feels like a transition between bigger releases.
What Should Australian Collectors Buy?
If you're on a budget, start with B-tier sets – they offer the best value per dollar right now. If you're investing, S-tier sealed product is the safest bet for long-term appreciation. And if you just want to rip packs and have fun, A-tier sets offer the best balance of exciting pulls and good value.
